Ongoing study -Many questions in healthcare are currently insufficiently studied through clinical trials, despite their high societal importance. The KCE Trials programme, a national funding programme for pragmatic and practice-oriented clinical trials, was launched in 2017 after the KCE report “Publicly funded Practice-oriented Clinical Trials” (2015) concluded that public funding of such trials would be beneficial under certain conditions. The annual budget available for this programme is approximately €10 million, entirely supported by the budget of RIZIV/INAMI. To date, 17 calls for studies have already been launched and approximately 65 clinical trials have been selected and funded within the programme.
After the first 10 years of existence, an evaluation of the programme and its impact is due. This project will be performed by an external independent party and overseen by the KCE Trials Prioritisation Group (PG), an existing group of external stakeholder representatives (partly delegated by the KCE Board and partly comprised of representatives from the Belgian universities).
