Study 2018-04 (GCP) Guideline for the prudent use of antibiotics in the dental office

Ongoing study - One of the levers to the prudent use of antibiotics is the availability of up-to-date guidelines for healthcare professionals. Currently no guidelines are available for the dental profession, although dentists are qualified to prescribe antibiotics. According to the Farmanet data (RIZIV-INAMI), dentists prescribed in 2011-2015 between 1.5 and 1.6 defined daily doses  (DDD) per 1 000 inhabitants  per year, or in other words 5% of the antibiotics in the ambulatory sector. The objective of this project is to develop a guideline which will provide evidence based guidance to dentists on the prudent use of antibiotics for the indications for which they are currently most prescribed in the Belgian dental office.
