Ongoing study - The Belgian hospital landscape is characterised by a high density of paediatric hospital services with a low average occupancy rate. However, this low average occupancy rate hides periods of peak activity, such as experienced during winter months.
The aim of the current study is to analyse the capacity for hospital paediatric services, with a special focus on the variable occupancy rate. The analysis will use detailed hospital records on activity levels (MZG-RHM) as well as survey data of Belgian hospitals. The organisation of paediatric hospital services in a selection of countries will be studied to draw lessons for the Belgian context.
