Study 2015-57 (HSR) Methodology for an “Horizon Scanning »

On going study - Horizon scanning involves both the identification and early evaluation of new health interventions that will enter the market on short or medium term or that are not widely diffused yet and the identification and evaluation of obsolete health interventions that should be removed from the market or interventions eligible for disinvestment.

Horizon scanning allows better informed choices (e.g. regarding planning, emerging health challenges and budget allocation), and better preparation of future decisions.
Belgium does not have a horizon scanning system. It wishes to collaborate with the Netherlands for such activities. The objective of the study is to evaluate the existing Dutch system for horizon scanning of pharmaceuticals and to explore possible amendments that would result in a system suitable for collaboration and offering efficiency gains for both countries.
